For the past few weeks, we have carried Elena whenever we needed to go somewhere. She has been unable to run free except inside the house and the store. Tragic, I know. Especially for such an independent soul!
This evening, I suggested we go to the store to purchase a pair of shoes for Elena. Genny agreed, although she was concerned that they might be too expensive. Once in the store, I picked out a pair of tennis shoes for $19.99. Genny would not allow the purchase.
"Too expensive!" she said. "I could get shoes for 5 bucks at a consignment sale!"
"But what will she do in Idaho for Thanksgiving?" I asked.
"I'll sneak into Jorelle's apartment and find a pair she can wear." Genny said.
Content as always, Elena gleefully ran around Fred Meyer, passed the frozen goods, completely barefoot. After a few minutes, Genny turned to me and said, "I can go get my hair layered!" and off she went to the haircut place next door.
Elena ran around with me in the store for the next 30 min. We decided to go check on Genny. The Haircut lady insisted that her style would best be achieved by purchasing a curling iron. $15 haircut later and a 25$ curling iron later, Elena stepped out into the rainy night - barefoot still.
Back at home, Genny busily fixed herself up in the bathroom. Out she came, "How do I look?" she asked as she tossed her curled hair around.
Just fine.
Poor Elena. She doesn't even know any better. Whenever we leave she just sits on the arm of the couch with her feet dangling down to the basket of 10 pairs of mommy and daddy's shoes and says. "I want shooooes!"
Every day we explain to her that she doesn't have shoes. Or that her shoes are in the car. And she lets us carry her out to the car. Sometimes she says, "I want to get down!" when we are outside. We let her down and she walks on the cold wet concrete saying, "It's COOOOLD. I wanta holdyou!"
Poor Elena.

P.S. This is now Genny taking over--in my defense, Elena has shoes, we just need to find them!!!
P.P.S. You like?:
P.P.P.S. I just found Elena's shoes! (It took a little motivation--hehe...he)
P.P.P.P.S. Elena gets a lot of exercise at zumba with mommy, and it's been cold and rainy, for which we have rainboots!!!!
P.P.P.P.P.S. Dan now feels bad for writing this post. Wife-bashing remorse, muahahahahaha

Talking about shoes, It is not recommended use other people shoes because already made their own shape. especially growing kids need own shoe even though they grow out quickly..
Many adult has bad shape of foot because they did not check the shoes while they growing up. That is fact.
Recommend:ALWAYS check the child shoe- in and out the car and especially shopping in grocery and mall of course at home too.
How you look? fabulous!
Genny & Daniel....our poor niece's growing feet!! ;) I hate spending $ on kid shoes too, they grow so fast. I buy the shoes every other size, so they fit longer. BUT not only can you not share shoes (as your mom mentioned), you have to buy the ones that support the feet or she will have foot issues later on....which is even more expensive than good shoes! They aren't super cheap, but the Stride Rite brand shoes are wonderful for kids. They run about $40, sometimes on sale for less, but they support their feet and last a long time. (Target shoes, and similiar, can be pretty awful on the feet....and if they are bad on adult feet, I can only imagine what they do to growing kid feet.) And Jason will laugh that I'm the one writing this, because he lectures me about good shoes ALL. THE. TIME. I have no problem buying my kids good shoes, but when I go to get ME shoes I suddenly become very aware of how expensive shoes are (and I come home with that crappy $5 Target shoe for myself, while my kids wear the nice shoes).
Hey, Mindy!
You make me giggle, You are walking on my path and it is so familiar to me. Sadly, Genny doesn't remember Stride Rite shoes that she used to wear.
I love to buy me a shoes in T-J-Max and Searching good comfortable shoes. usually brand name is better fits but not always... I try on and wait until cut down the price at least two times. so, end up getting for one forth price.
BUT MOUNTAIN HIKING SHOES, I really invest my foot and purchase good shoes in R.E.I. so comfortable that feel like riding Cadillac(the best number one American car) on my foot.
Only foot knows that feeling!
Now we are living near the beach, I walk in the sand without shoes..and that is the best! Ha, Ha! Genny, don't feel so bad. We are talking wisdom!
I don't know about you two... hehehehe
Here is Tip: growing children need check every 3 months. suggestion?
Once in a while, when you are in department store or shoes store
MEASURE the FEET.
Xo.Xo.Xo!
