Our spiritual plants

Lately it seems that we have been scripture-reading slackers.  (And I'm not going to define "lately").  I personally have been inconsistent, and we want Elena to gain a good habit.

Last Sunday I taught a Sunday School lesson to the young women about 1) How to receive personal revelation, and 2) How to strengthen one's testimony.  At the end of the lesson, we read in Alma 32, about how our faith is like a seed, and will grow if the seed is good, the soil, is good, and the seed is nurtured.  And for motivation, I gave everyone a starter pot with good soil.  We planted wild-flower seeds (because they grow well), and set a goal:  read the scriptures at least 10 minutes a day.  And only when we read the scriptures, we can water our plants.

Since last Sunday, Dan, Elena and I have planted our own seeds and have started on a more consistent scripture-reading quest!  With Elena, the daily goal is to read a chapter of the Book of Mormon Stories (for kids).

And, can I say how motivating this is?  I mean, who wants to watch their spiritual plant lay dormant, or die?
